বাংলাদেশ সহ চার দেশের পতাকার চরম অবমাননা করেছে একদল উগ্রপন্থী। ইতোমধ্যে কয়েকটি শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠান সহ বাংলাদেশের বিভিন্ন স্থানে ভারত, ইসরায়েল ও আমেরিকার পতাকার অবমাননার ছবি সামাজিক যোগাযোগ মধ্যে ছড়িয়ে পড়েছে।
যেকোন দেশের জাতীয় পতাকাই সেই দেশের স্বাধীনতা ও সার্বভৌমত্বের প্রতীক। সুতরাং কোনো দেশের জাতীয় পতাকার অবমাননা করার অর্থ হচ্ছে সে দেশের স্বাধীনতা ও সার্বভৌমত্বের অবমাননা সামিল এবং এটি শাস্তিযোগ্য অপরাধ।
এখন প্রশ্ন হচ্ছে, জাতীয় পতাকার অবমাননা কীভাবে হয়? সহজ কথায়- জাতীয় পতাকার সম্মান বজায় রাখতে যা যা করণীয়, তার পরিপন্থী কিছু করা হলে সেটাই জাতীয় পতাকার অবমাননা।
২০২৪-এর কথিত বৈষম্যবিরোধী ছাত্র আন্দোলনের নামে আন্দোলনকারীদেরকে প্রায়ই দেখা গেছে নিজেদের শরীরে বাংলাদেশের জাতীয় পতাকা জড়িয়ে রাখতে। আবার শিক্ষার্থীদের আড়ালে থেকে এই তথাকথিত আন্দোলন পরিচালনাকারী উগ্রপন্থীদের বিভিন্ন সময়ে দেখা গেছে জাতীয় পতাকাকে জায়নামাজ হিসেবে ব্যবহার করে তার ওপরে দাঁড়িয়ে নামাজ পড়তে। এছাড়াও কখনো কখনো আন্দোলনরতদেরকে জাতীয় পতাকা বিছিয়ে বসতেও দেখা গেছে।
এবার দেখে নেওয়া যাক গণপ্রজাতন্ত্রী বাংলাদেশের পতাকা বিধিমালা অনুযায়ী জাতীয় পতাকার সম্মান বজায় রাখতে করণীয়গুলোর মধ্যে কয়েকটি পয়েন্ট:
· পতাকা কোনো ব্যক্তি বা জড় বস্তুর দিকে নিম্নমুখী করা যাইবে না।
· পতাকা কখনোই উহার নীচের কোনো বস্তু যেমন: মেঝে, পানি বা পণ্যদ্রব্য স্পর্শ করিবে না।
· বাংলাদেশের পতাকা কোনো কিছুর আচ্ছাদন হিসেবে ব্যবহার করা যাইবে না। তবে শর্ত থাকে যে, কোনো বিশিষ্ট ব্যক্তি যাহাকে পূর্ণ সামরিক মর্যাদা বা পূর্ণ আনুষ্ঠানিকতা সহ সমাধিস্থ করা হয়, তাহার শবযানে পতাকা আচ্ছাদনের অনুমোদন প্রদান করা যাইতে পারে।

সুতরাং জুলাই-আগস্টে আন্দোলনরতরা বাংলাদেশের জাতীয় পতাকা নিয়ে যা কিছু করেছে, তা স্পষ্টতই জাতীয় পতাকার অবমাননা। এবং এর মধ্য দিয়ে তারা বাংলাদেশের স্বাধীনতা ও সার্বভৌমত্বের মর্যাদাও ক্ষুণ্ণ করেছে।
শিক্ষার্থীরূপী এই সন্ত্রাসীরা যে কেবল নিজেদের দেশের স্বাধীনতা ও সার্বভৌমত্বে আঘাত হেনেছে তা নয়, তারা আঘাত হেনেছে আরো তিনটি দেশের স্বাধীনতা ও সার্বভৌমত্বের চেতনায়ও। কিছুদিন আগে বাংলাদেশ প্রকৌশল বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় তথা বুয়েটের প্রবেশপথে ভারতের জাতীয় পতাকা এঁকে সেই পতাকাকে পদদলিত করেছে তারা।
শুধু তাই না, একই কাজ তারা করেছে ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় এলাকায়ও। সেখানে তারা ভারত, ইজরায়েল এবং আমেরিকার জাতীয় পতাকা মাটিতে এঁকে সেই পতাকাকে পদদলিত করে পতাকার চরম অবমাননা করেছে।
একই রকম ঘটনা দেখা গেছে চট্টগ্রামের বোয়ালখালীতেও। সেখানকার সিরাজুল ইসলাম ডিগ্রি কলেজের প্রবেশমুখেও সন্ত্রাসীরা ভারত এবং ইজরায়েলের জাতীয় পতাকার ছবি এঁকে সেই পতাকাকে বারংবার পদদলিত করেছে।
সন্ত্রাসীদের এই চরম অবমাননামূলক আচরণে এটাই প্রতীয়মান হয় যে তারা শুধু বাংলাদেশের না, সারাবিশ্বের শ্ত্রু, বিশ্বমানবতার শ্ত্রু। এদেরকে প্রতিহত করা এবং বিচারের আওতায় আনা এখন সময়ের দাবি।
দুঃখজনক হলেও সত্যি, সারাদেশের বিভিন্ন জায়গায় ঘটে যাওয়া এসমস্ত অবমাননামূলক কর্মকাণ্ড নিয়ে বাংলাদেশের গণমাধ্যমগুলো টু শব্দটিও করছে না, বরং নীরব ভূমিকা পালন করে যাচ্ছে!#
A Shocking Act of Disrespect Towards the Flags of Four Nations!
A group of extremists have grossly insulted the flags of four countries, including Bangladesh. Already, pictures of the extreme insulting of the flags of India, Israel and America in various places in Bangladesh, including educational institutions, have spread on social media.
A national flag represents the independence and sovereignty of a country. Therefore, disrespecting a country’s flag is an insult to its independence and sovereignty, which is a punishable offense.
Now, the question arises: how does one desecrate a national flag? Simply put, anything that goes against the proper ways to honor the flag is considered desecration.
During the so-called anti-discrimination student protests of 2024, protesters were often seen wrapping themselves in the national flag of Bangladesh. Meanwhile, behind the scenes, the extremists leading these protests were observed using the national flag as a prayer mat and even standing on it while offering prayers. At times, the protesters were seen sitting on the flag as well.
Now, let’s look at some points from the Flag Code of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh on how to honor the national flag:
The flag should never be lowered towards a person or an inanimate object.
The flag must not touch the ground, water, or any other object like goods or products.
The flag should never be used as a covering for anything. However, in cases of a prominent individual being buried with full military honors, the flag may be used to cover the body.

Therefore, the actions of the protesters in July and August, involving the national flag of Bangladesh, clearly amounted to desecration. Through these actions, they not only disrespected the flag but also tarnished the dignity of Bangladesh’s independence and sovereignty.
These so-called “students” didn’t just attack the independence and sovereignty of their own country, but also the values of three other nations. Recently, at the entrance of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), they drew the national flag of India on the ground and stomped on it. Similarly, in the Dhaka University area, they drew the flags of India, Israel, and the United States on the ground and trampled on them, blatantly disrespecting these nations’ flags as well.
A similar incident has also occurred in Boalkhali, Chittagong. At the entrance of Sirajul Islam Degree College, extremists drew the national flags of India and Israel on the ground and repeatedly trampled on them.
Such blatant disrespect demonstrates that these extremists are not only enemies of Bangladesh but of the entire world and humanity. It is now crucial to confront them and bring them to justice.
It is unfortunate but true that the Bangladeshi media has remained completely silent about these disgraceful acts occurring across the country, choosing instead to adopt a passive and indifferent stance.#
